Trojan.....

Trojan, I do not mean the Trojan Horse from Virgil's Latin epic poem The Aeneid.

I mean the Trojan Virus, the kind that seeps into your computer and starts to eat and worm its way to destruction.

This is just a little story or better yet a warning.
Picture, Jane, me, normal day, nothing special, checking blogs,

when BAM!!!!

(((((((Danger your computer is under attack!!
Your computer is being hijacked!!
All your personal information is at risk!! )))))))
UNLESS
You download this virus protection.
Now these messages “look” real. They are from Microsoft, from Vista, from people and places you trust. So you try to close the windows but no matter what they keep popping up!! Hmmm, you think!!
THEN
You remember about a year ago when something similar happened and you listened to those warnings and you clicked the name you came to trust and you saw your whole hard drive melt right in front of your eyes!!

So, #1, I knew it was not true, I have great virus protection, and I did not need more.
#2 How dumb do they think I am, give them my name, address, and credit card number, really!!
#3 My warring to you, if this happens go to another computer and Google the Trojan. I Googled “Remove Trojan (whatever they say the virus is)".

The first thing that came up said,
FAKE!! Aha, I knew it!!
I was able to remove it, because I do have some computer knowledge.
What I do not have is the time to waste on something so silly.

Please be careful and when in doubt, Google, ask questions, but just do not blindly believe.

A small post note, as I was doing this all day, I did not get a chance to read any blogs, sorry about that! I will catch up with you later!

  1. Don't you just hate those things!! I had a real one take over my computer about 1.5 years ago and had enough. Switched to a Mac and have never had any problems. I don't know why there are people out there that all they have time to do is invent these viruses that destroy personal computers. What do they have to gain by this? I say they have too much time on their hands.

  2. So sorry to hear about your computer troubles. I just don't understand how people can be so mean.

  3. My husband and I had to work through some computer issues thanks to some trojan virus last year. I just can't understand why people waste time trying to cause others trouble. We upgraded our Virus protection and added Registry protection and still I worry that someone will hack through those things. Anyway, thanks for hoppin' over to my blog. Spring is here and it just seemed like a good thing to do a hop!!

  4. Those pop-up fake virus warnings are a real nuisance. I switched to a Mac a couple of years ago and have never had to worry about those things since. Whoever dreams those things up should put their skills to better use!

  6. ugh... last week I got infected. And it made me mad. It took all day to remove the stupid virus (luckily I was able to do it myself and didn't have to pay someone $80 - again) and it kept popping up porn. It made me so mad! I was glad my kids and hubby were not around to see that stuff but then again I don't want to see that crap either!

  7. That is soo funny how you presented this.. You presented it so well. glad you didn't totally panic though.
I had at one time hundreds of thousands of emails going out on my computer. The server shut me down and it cost about $200.00 to get me repaired.
Who has time to do all of this by the way?

  8. What amazes me is that brilliant people will WASTE their time creating something like that in the first place.
