Vacation…

This past weekend we went to the Wisconsin Dells, an area that was recently devastated by flooding. Our first stop was to take a look at a spot where we went water tubing and water skiing last summer. Such a shame—now it is just a big empty hole. Stumps were scattered across the basin where they had originally cleared land to create the lake. We walked to the bottom of what had been Lake Delton and saw one house half-hanging off of the shore. I feel so sorry for all the people who are out of a job this summer because of the flooding. No one in town knew what the plans were to restore the lake. We will return, however.

We were in town with our 12 year old daughter’s softball team, 10-12 little girls who had the time of their lives. They swam in the wave pools, slide down the water and tube slides, rode the Hurricane (quite the thrill!), ate out, went to Deer Park, rode go-carts, and even managed to squeeze in a game of softball or two. The only bad part of the whole weekend was that I fell and twisted my ankle! My ankle swelled to the size of a softball, and I had to find crutches and was forced to miss all of the water fun. But, despite the injury, a great time was had by everyone. My ankle is much better—I am just moving slower than usual. This injury happened just in time for my website grand opening! Such is my luck. Until next time, Jane.

History….

I know we have all seen the commercials on TV for bring the family back to the dinner table and see what develops. That happened to us not to long ago, we were able to have the whole family together for dinner and I asked the question, “What is your favorite time of History, what time period interests you the most”? Now you need to know that in our family this is not a strange question, we all love History. Our oldest daughter is a High School History teacher, her favorite time to teach is the Holocaust. This has interested her since middle school. Our middle daughter is getting her PhD in American History. She studies the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and specializes in women, gender, and labor. Our youngest daughter likes to read and study the Cold War. As for myself, I love anything to do with the American Revolution, and my husband, the Civil War. How about you? What is your favorite time in history? Jane

The Doorbell

In our home if the doorbell rings, we know it is someone selling something door-to-door. Anyone we know just walks into our home. If it rings we all stop and do not move hoping they will go away! The only exception to this rule is at 2:30 PM, if that door bell rings, I run, not walk to the door, for I know it is Tom, my UPS driver, bringing me FABRIC. Every time he comes, it is like Christmas. I received something yesterday, I forgot I ordered! How fun was that! More and more fabric will be coming over the next few weeks. My store janesfabrics.com will be bursting at the seams. I will be adding new bolts, charm packs, and fat quarters. Please visit janesfabrics.com often, for I will always be getting new things for you to enjoy. Have a great day! Jane

Grocery Shopping….

Grocery shopping, gotta love it!! Aisle after aisle of wonderful yummy goodies. The best is when you bring your kids, its summer, toss in the cart whatever you want! Check out, that will be $211.86. Ok, here you go. Get home, un-pack the new, throw away the old. Recycle what you can, and three hours later, have your husband call and say what’s for dinner. My response, “I have no idea! Let’s go out” Jane

PS Our freezer has every kind of novelty ice cream known to man!!

The Dells

Good Morning, I am sitting here sipping my coffee, getting ready to go to one of our softball games, when my thoughts drifted to the people in Wisconsin. We also live by a river, The Fox River, I have lived here my whole life and the worst flooding I have seen, (and we live close), is that the river rose and covered part of our main street. Nothing like the devastation in Wisconsin, we had plans on taking our family up for the weekend, our future son-in-law, never went tubing. Last summer I sipped my coffee and looked out the hotel room onto the lake to watch the boaters and tubers. We are still going to the Dells; they need our support and our prayers. Until next time, Jane

Thought for the day…shopping cart…if at first you do not succeed, eat a whole pound bag of M & M’s, watch a good movie and start over the next day!
It works!!!

My Three Girls......

I have 3 daughters, the oldest married for two years. She and her husband are teachers, and work at the same high school. Wait, I take that back, he is now Assistant Principal at their high school!! I have a second daughter who is going to start her 3rd year, for her PHD in History. She just gave us wonderful news; she is now engaged to a super guy!! He is finishing his MBA at Harvard. A 2010 wedding is planned. I am sure I will keep you all up-dated on the progress. We also have what I call my miracle baby, she is 12. All three girls played softball. The two oldest played all the way through college. So, I have seen a lot of games!! Yesterday afternoon as I was sitting at my computer trying to work on the web-site, I noticed the time, 4:00PM, we had a game at 6:00; did I really need to go? Well, I went, and let me tell you, it was the most beautiful night ever, just the perfect summer night. She hit the ball well, made some great plays on the field and pitched a great game, too. The moral, they lost the game but in the real end, I WON!! Jane
