Weekend Sewing….

I found out this weekend that it is amazing how important it is to take time when cutting your quilting pieces. Measure twice cut once is soooo the truth! If Elaine had not cut theses for me it would never have gone together this quick and ACCUATE.
I was able to finish the middle this weekend. And, guess what? It came out the right size!!!
Next the borders!

I also made some of my “I Spy” blocks. See two projects at once!!!

What you do this weekend?

Oh yes, throw in a few girls Basketball games and laundry and grocery shopping! And I have a dumb cold!!!

Beginners and Enders….

This is my way of working on two projects at once! In one of the bees that I am in one of the members asked if we had any novelty prints that we could share. She was looking for 5 inch squares for an “I Spy” quilt. I knew I had some so as I was cutting for her I got the bug to make a new “I Spy” quilt too! I made one year’s ago but children’s favorite characters change. Not sure my grandbaby knows who the Care Bears are!! So, I am making a new one.
What I like about this one is that it will be an ongoing project, so I can work on it as I work other projects.
I will just keep the squares by my machine and put them together a little at a time!

When I sew a piece for this…….

I will start and end with these!!

By any chance does anyone have any 5 inch squares or scraps of novelty prints that are looking for a home? I also would love any characters such as Elmo, Dora, etc. Flannel would work too. I would be very grateful for your help. Thanks so much!!

Have a great weekend!!

How many of you….

Have a friend who will do this for you?
We both bought the same pattern.

She knows my cutting skills are lacking.

SO…

She cut all my pieces for me!
Made me a color chart and even labeled the pieces!!!!

Now all I have to do is put it together!!

Thank you so much Elaine!!! You are the best!

Also...
A new addition to my sewing room!!

I Made This!!!????

I made an ironing board for my new sewing room! Me! Gotta' love the staple gun!!
When they were remodeling the basement, I asked them to save this piece of wood. This was going to be my new ironing board.

We all have a bag of left over batting pieces, right?

Staple the batting to the wood.

Next I stapled canvas on top of the batting.

Viola!!! My new ironing board!

I thought I would give you a peek of my sewing room and how the organization is coming along. I have learned so much from my fellow bloggers as to how to store my stash and what they thought was the most important part of their sewing room.

We have our queen sleeper sofa ordered and hopefully will be here soon. With that being said and the budget now gone, I have used items we had in our home for my sewing room. Little by little they will be replaced with "real" cutting and sewing tables.
I am delighted with my room.
It is warm and cozy and I love it!
So does TT, he calls it the "New Room".

Part of my dresser set from when I was 13 years old. I can still remember when my parents bought me this grown up furniture. Boy they made things well, way back then!!

Just a good old kitchen table!

BTW, see those pink file cabinets? They were $70.00. I bought them for $7.99 each!!!
I also purchased a swivel desk chair for $4.99!! I want to use the good old stable gun and recover the chair. Right now it is purple with flowers!
Thank you for all your help, advice and wonderful comments as this room was created.
Have a wonderful weekend. I am off to sew!!
Go Chicago Bears!!

My Fabric Shack

About two years ago I tried the website “thing”. I lasted two months! Now, I do understand computers but my Heavens it was a lot of work. So time consuming! I applaud those who can run an on-line fabric store. You are an amazing and talented group. It takes a great deal of time and effort. My hat to goes off to you wonderful people.

Birdie Stitches Block of the Month ~~ January

I spent a lot of quite and thoughtful time this weekend. I was able to finish my first block for the

Birdie Stitches Block of the Month

Wow, I have been away from embroidery a little too long. I need to work on my skills. I hope by the 12th month to have it all back again!! But this was such fun and I did learn a few things on the way. I used 4 strands of floss, a stabilizer to hide my mess and variegated pink floss for my bird. As you can see I have made my block for February. I did stitch a 1/8 inch seam all around the border to avoid fraying.

Come on February!!

A little me time…

You know how that is~~~~ sometimes you just need a little me time……
Time to think…
Time to wonder….
Time to plan...
Time to read a good book, watch a good movie, or sew.
Not long, just an hour or so; and when you come back you are refreshed and renewed and rearing to go.

I was home alone for a few hours today, so I did not clean, or do laundry, or cook. (I know Elaine, I do not cook anyway)!!!

SOOOOO......

I decided to sew…sew something fun and new.

It has been quite a while since I have embroidered, but thanks to Kaaren, I have found out that I still can stitch.

Well, Corey at Little Miss Shabby is hosting a BOM called Birdie Stitches. It is sooo darling!!!! I am giving this month a try. I am using all fabrics from my stash. Two charm packs of “Oh, Cherry, Oh” and other scraps I have been saving.

This is the first block. The hardest part for me was tracing the design!!

Now I am off to pick floss colors and see if I really can still embroider.

Take a peek at this adorable BOM!!

What I am working on.....

I am really not sure how much of this quilt I have shown you but it is the 9 Patch, Make one a day Quilt by Crazy Mom Quilts . Yes I am late but I still kept going and this is now where I am…..

I had the top done and now it was time to add the little 2 1/2 inch squares to make the border.

I had an extra jelly roll of the fabric I used; Berry Delicious by Moda.

I decided to make strip sets from the fabric.

I came up with quite a few sets.

It was time to cut them into 2 1/2 inch squares, so I pulled out my Accucut studio 2 1/2 inch strip die and got to work!

I layered the strip sets horizontally on the die and cranked.

This is what I made!

Now I can sew them end to end to make the border.

Super fast and an easy way to add a lot of squares together!

Border on!!
Off to layer and pin!
