How everything went wrong!!

This is a post about how everything went wrong!! As I posted before, I started my I Spy quilt by cutting 5 inch squares of novelties. Many of which were kindly sent to me. thank you! I then cut the sashing on my AccuCut studio. Now I start to see them together. I was using them as leaders and enders. Probably did not take the correct time to make the precise ¼ inch seam!

Next sew them in to rows. So far, so good! Ten rows with 12 squares each.

Time to make the top. Again using my studio cut strips. Sew a strip to the top of a row. Add the next row, Hmm larger!

Add the next row, larger,
Add the next row, larger,
larger and larger!
It looks like stairs!!
By the time I get done I will have totally eliminated one whole 5 inch square!

Now, there is no way I am going to redo this whole top,
so I will trim it up and the grandbabies will love it.

Wow!!
I guess that ¼ of an inch seam is important!!!
I have to laugh!!
What a goof I am!!!

  2. I like that you aren't stressed about the whole thing. Go with the flow. Hey, you have a shutes and ladder quilt! It is going to be snuggled and loved - that's the important thing.

  3. Everything might have gone wrong but I think it turned out great. I love the red sashing. Grandbabies are wonderful, they will love anything you make for them.

  4. Had to laugh at this post of yours. I am making a wedding quilt, and YES the 1/4" seam does make a BIG difference. I had to rip and re-sew and of course do a little cursing. Am glad I am not the only one that has this problem LOLing ! ! ! !

  5. I hate quarter inch seams! They are never a quarter inch at my house...I don't know why because I've tried everything I know and it just doesn't happen. But I'm now the master of making things fit or enjoying them however they turn out. :) Your grandchildren will love the quilt and if you don't tell them won't know it wasn't supposed to be that way. :) blessings, marlene

  8. I think it looks great with the blocks offset from each other like that! What a great way to do sashing so you don't have to stress about keeping everything even! You've just invented a new quilting method...Jane's No-stress Quilting! Copyright it!

  10. Good Morning, Jane,
This is such a good reminder that even 1/16th of an inch can make a big difference. Yes, the grandbabies will love the color and prints.

  13. Good for you laughing at it, that's one of those things that makes me cry! I bet the grandkids will have fun with it, you'll have to call it something like Grandmother's Stairsteps!

  14. ya know... sometimes you just have to roll with it, chalk it up as fate and whimsy, and smile at the outcome. I bet the kids won't even know.

It's the love made into it that needs to be perfect... not the quilt.

  18. I guess everyone is right about the importance of the 1/4 inch seam. However, I think it turned out adorable and they will LOVE it! Good job on not sweating the small stuff. I hope in my lifetime I learn that!
