Scissors

I am hoping for some advice about scissors.
I have my great-grandmothers scissors that I adore and use all the time. They are made by the Toledo Company. I love how one blade is blunt tipped and one blade is sharp. The 6 inch size is just perfect.

So what is the problem?
They are not very sharp. They are also at the point where they can not be sharpened.
I would love to get a pair that is the same style as these scissors but I cannot seem to find them. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what kind I should buy.  I am not like most quilters, I think I may have 3-4 pairs of scissors. I am a creature of habit!
Thanks for any advice you can share.

Have a wonderful weekend, do something you love!

  2. My scissors never last and still haven't found the perfect ones. The last pair is comfy to use and cuts nice, but they feel like they are about to break at the screw, they just don't make them like they used to.

  3. really pretty scissors. but no help from me. only have eyes for my 8 in. Ginghers. when they get dull they become my spiffy paper scissors. recently purchased the 7 in. ones which being smaller are handy for trimming HST's and such.

  4. Was your grandmother from Germany? They remind me a lot of German Solingen scissors, only yours are much more decorative. Beautiful!

  5. I have multiple pair of scissors but my favorite brand is
Dovo scissors. I think they're made in Germany. The are very well made and comfortable to use. They cut wonderfully. They are a bit pricey and come in many sizes-but worth the money in my opinion

  6. I can help! If you want to go higher end, but very, very good - go with dovo. I have a treasured pair and love them. If you want to go medium price I LOVE Kai. If you do any appliqué you want a pair with the micro serrated blades. Otherwise any of theirs are wonderful. I have several different pairs of those - I love them for small clipping scissors to larger cutting scissors! Email me if you want any pics or help.

  10. Dovo makes a size very close to these that are wonderful and available in a gold or pewter finish. I have had mind for ages and they are wonderfully sharp. Pricey, but worth the dollars.

  12. Those are beautiful! I also use Gingers who has a similar style, although they that aren't as pretty on the eyes. Ginger makes fabulous scissors....unless your kids use them to made models!

  14. I have a two pair of Ginghers that I have had for decades and are wonderful.
FYI: I read/was told that I should always wipe the blades clean after each use. Most of the time I just use my t-shirt tail and I'm convinced that's why they still are so sharp.
I also have some Fiskars micro-tip scissors that work very well.

  15. My best friend just recently bought a smaller pair of geigers that she loves. I am not sure if they were called embrodery sissors or not. I have been thinking of getting some myself. I have a larger pair of that brand that I use for fabric cutting that I love.

  16. What pretty scissors!

I won a pair of scissors from Madame Samm a while back made by Famore. I love them so much I have bought other scissors from them. =) Maybe they will have some you like. =)
