The Princess Bride (1987)

Staring;
Cary Elwes
Robin Wright

Director Rob Riener

True love, Buttercup and the farm-boy, Westley, fall in love. Buttercup thinks he is dead and vows never to love again. However, she somehow becomes betrothed to Prince Humperdinck. Can anyone stop this Wedding, even the Dread Pirate Roberts??

Best line of the movie….

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Or

“As you wish”

Or

""Inconceivable!"

I am afraid our Bride-to-Be was and still is afraid of “The Rodents of Unusual Size”!!

Also, a great book!!

Our Trip to Philly!!!

What a wonderful two days!!! As I mentioned, My oldest daughter Becky, bride-to-be, Emily, Maggie and I. Oh silly me of course the groom–to-be!, all flew from Chicago to Philly to spend some time with Randy’s family and to attend a bridal shower for Emily given by her absolutely wonderful and delightful, mother-in-law to be!

We arrived in Philly about 4PM and what did my wonderful future SIL do? Why he knows me so well he took me to one of my favorite places. He took me here even before he went to see his family!! What a great guy! Oh where? Well, as far as I know there are only two states in the US that have this little place, I believe it started in Philadelphia.
RITA”S Water Ice!!
We have all have had a DQ float BUT this is Water Ice made with fresh fruit, (Cherry)!!!! And layered with the best frozen custard on the earth!! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The last time I had Rita’s was about 5-6 years ago, when Emily was attending Swarthmore College. What a sweet boy to take us there! NOW, that was just the start.

We next headed to Randy’s house to meet the family. I have met his parents, and they are wonderful, but Randy is the oldest of 12 children, ranging in age from 25 to 5. So, we got to meet the children, grandparents and friends of the family.

I told you I was bad at pictures and was having such fun that night, that of course I forgot to take any Friday night!!

I do have a picture of the hostess gift I brought Randy’s Mom, Mindy.
It was a box of Fannie May Candy, two pot-holders, a market bag, and a table topper.

Emily gave her a beautiful heart picture frame with a picture of her and Randy.
My daughter is such a lucky girl to be able to be part of this extraordinary family. This is a family that when you first meet them, you feel as if you have been part of there lives forever! The warm, caring, given, feeling you get cannot be described,
Wait yes it can, FAMILY!!
We had a wonderful time and I hated to leave but I knew it was going to be a big day for Randy’s Mom on Saturday.

So, we headed back to the hotel.
Sorry, but we did not invite dad, just us girls.

Maggie and I in one bed, Becky in her own bed, and Emily had the pull out. Now I have no idea what the problem was, Maggie and I had wonderful nights sleep, but for some reason Becky kept yelling, who is snoring, who is coughing. Hmmm, no idea!!!

Saturday morning was fun; I forgot what it was like to have all us girls in one room, with one sink, and one shower getting ready to go out. What fun, music, dancing, laughing ,makeup, hair and getting dressed.

Here we are ready to leave for the shower.
Becky, Maggie, Me, Emily

And my three beautiful daughters!

This is where the shower was held, there were over 70 ladies. Look at how beautiful this was…

Emily and Mindy(see how sweet she is)!!

Emily and two of her future SIL'S, aren't they breathtaking?

Here I am stalking this poor woman I did not even know because I loved her hair so much!! She said she cuts it herself! It was super cute!

We had brunch, there was so much food and it was all wonderful!!
We even had entertainment! There was a magician, super fun!!

After dessert, Randy arrived and they opened presents.

So much work and planning went into this shower and we are so grateful! Again, how lucky to become part of this wonderful family.

Father of the Bride (1991)

Staring;
Steve Martin
Diane Keaton

Director Charles Shyer BR>

This is a remake of the Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor film. But to be honest even as much as I adore classics, I love this version.

And since I am heading to a Bridal Shower for my daughter, I thought it to be a fitting pick!

The movie, how to handle things when your children grow up, whether you want them to or not!

Taking a little Vacation…

I do not know why, but I feel compelled to let you know I will be taking a few weeks off. With Emily’s Wedding quickly approaching, I feel as if I cannot do blogging justice. I do hope to show you some pictures of the up-coming showers. The first is this Saturday, in Philly. This shower is being given by Emily’s future MIL; I know it is going to be such a fun time. Then the following weekend, my girls are giving Emily a shower.
Sooo, I will miss you but

Bringing up Baby (1938)

Staring;
Cary Grant
Katharine Hepburn

Director Howard Hawks

Katharine Hepburn (Susan) a rather scatter head, finds she has been smitten with paleontologist Cary Grant (David). And the hilarious events that happen as she tries to get his attention. Even with the use of a leopard named “Baby”

Questions!!!!

#1 What kind of sewing machine do you have?

I keep buying machines and never seem to find what I want or need. I do not want bells and whistles; just a machine that works well! Where the tension stays where I put it, it does not skip stitches, the needle does not move; I have a machine every time I set the perfect ¼ inch seam. I turn the machine off, when I turn it back on the needle is in a new position!!! Grrr…
I do not care if the needle stays up or down. I like a foot pedal. I need straight and zigzag. I have a machine with a ton of stitches, never use them!! Any ideas?

#2 What kind of thread do you use for piecing?

I have always used Coats and Clark 100% Cotton, what do you think. I am afraid to try anything else, but I bet there is something better out there?

Thank you!!!!!

Oh my Heavens…..

Oh my Heavenly days….
I did it!!
What you say?
Binding!!!
Yes, after 25 years plus of quilting, I finally can do a decent binding!!

YIPPEE!!!!!

I would like to thank Carrie from A Passion for Appliqué for first posting this you-tube video.

Then I would like to thank Sharon Schamber (for I am sure she reads my blog) for this absolutely foolproof method.

I am going to re-post the video because it bears repeating and for those of us that are binding challenged this will save your life!! And those of your family. (I might get a little crabby when it is time to bind).

In this video Sharon uses a glue tip, do not attempt to find it, you will not be able to find the tip!!! I even emailed the Elmer’s Glue Company and they did not have the tip. I did, however, find THIS at Jo-Ann (only on-line) and it works like a charm.

So, sit back, relax and let your binding problems melt away!!!
Sorry, scroll down and turn off my music.
There are 3 parts.
