What does the Alphabet and Red and White have in common?

Nothing but the two projects I have been working on this week.

I am still plugging away on my ABC Quilts!

I have always wanted to make a red and white quilt.  No other colors just red and white so I have been saving fabrics for this quilt.

I cut 200 5 X 5 squares. Does not look like much does it?

This is the top getting basted.  I have tried so many ways of basting but for me the floor still works the best. I use the grand-children's puzzles as weights and roll the quilt as I pin.

There is a lovely lady on Instagram that does beautiful big stitch quilting. I asked her what needles she used and she uses
Big Stitch Needles

I also highly recommend them, they can glide through the top, batting and backing and do not bend.
It has been hard for me to get use to big stitching because I try to take such tiny stitches when I quilt.
I will say that I am enjoying the process.

Thank you for your visit.
Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you get to do something you love.
See you next week.

  2. Oh I just love the red quilt - so pretty and festive for Valentine's Day :) I received my fabric from Donna and have been having a blast with is. So far I have made a sweet quilted basket filled with fabric bunnies, some fabric flowers, and little strawberries :)

Thanks again for the wonderful giveaway! Happy weekend!

  5. I got my mother some of the big stitch needles and she struggled in the beginning to adjust from the 10-12 stitches per inch (yeah, one of those), but now enjoying it. I love those little kercheif girls.

  6. I have not seen those needles before... will have to be on the look out for them! I am really enjoying some bigger stitch quilting, but it is a challenge to keep the stitches big!

I love the alphabet quilts too.
    You are on fire Jane.
    Isn't madness a blast?? haha
I have about 4 projects on the burner as well. Hey it's how we roll.
Are you hand quilting this top? So how to you keep the stitches from getting pulled after the quilt is done? Do I need to do some research on this new development?

  10. Oh, me too! Me too! I love red and white. But with some black too. Which is exactly the color quilt I've started working on this past week. I'm stuck on figuring out the design direction I want to go with the blocks I've made. I think your big stitch quilting is a perfect detail decision for your quilt. Those alphabet quilts are going to be so fun. All the colors in those are fantastic. hahaha....what a kick I got out of seeing your shrinking suitcase you collected your fabrics in. LoL Love it!
