Stamp It Blog Hop- My Day

YES! Another fun blog hop!
Thanks to Madame Samm for such creative ideas. Thank you to Thearica from Pigtales and Quilts for being our cheerleader for this hop!

I am not sure I did this hop justice. I knew right away what I wanted my stamp to look like, but it represents the USA and not my state. I also knew I wanted to embroider the stamp. My favorite Holiday is by far The 4th of July so my stamp pays homage to the 4th.
Once again Maggie and I set out to our favorite photo shoot site, but look, this poor little stamp next to the stone lighthouse replica! She is so tiny!

Here she is up close.

I did stitch the date July 4 1776 but I have no idea if the stamp actually did cost 4 cents!  Yikes, I should have done some research.
Nevertheless, I had a wonderful time making this stamp.

Thank you for your visit and here is the rest of the schedule for today and the next two days.

July 1

  12. Jane your Independence Day stamp is so sweet. I doubt if a stamp was 4 cents back then as I can remember 4 cent stamps as a child, (I'm not that old, lol) but the 4 cents works perfectly with your theme. Love the photo shoot location.

  13. Your wee tot 4th of July stamp is adorable!

Here is what I found for you... The USPS traces its roots to 1775 during the Second Continental Congress, where Benjamin Franklin was appointed the first postmaster general. The cabinet-level Post Office Department was created in 1792 from Franklin's operation and transformed into its current form in 1971 under the Postal Reorganization Act.

Although postal fees were expressed in pennyweights and grains of silver, this was an accounting measure only, as there was very little circulating silver between 1776 and 1791. In many instances the one-penny (two cents) delivery fee was paid using copper tokens that circulated widely.

  41. That does look like a wee-tot holding the flag - adorable. Like the postmark on it, too. BTW, when I was a kid in the late 40s/early 50s, stamps were 3 cents!! I was so proud to be able to walk (by myself) to the post office uptown and buy Mom a couple of stamps!!
