I live in Illinois!! I see corn fields, farms, rows of apple trees. Flat land everywhere, except for the occasional anthill!! We get tornadoes; I was raised knowing what to do, how to act, and where to get to safety. BUT, at exactly 4:00AM this morning, we awoke to a rumble and a shake, earthquake!! Yikes, 4.3 on the scale and 20 minutes from my home!! OK, not a fun feeling when the earth moves. It is getting scary in our world.
Do you think God is sending us a message, “make love not war”!!
P.S. Have a cold, not much going on around here as far as sewing. Stay safe!
I can imagine that it was a shock for you folks. With all that snow, I do not think you also need earthquakes.
ReplyDeleteYikes! No that is scarry for sure.
ReplyDeleteStay safe.
welcome to my world! :) glad you're OK
ReplyDeleteMy sister in law in Dekalb felt it. Wonder if hubby's brothers in Peru and my friends in Oglesby felt it...
ReplyDeleteBeen there in NW Ohio for three small quakes... It's a weird feeling...
Having lived in Southern CA for most of my life I'm more used to earthquakes than a tornado. No warning with earthquakes so no worry.
ReplyDeleteHoly Scary, Glad you are ok.. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDelete(here is some online chicken noodle soup for you <> )
I have actually experienced an earthquake here in Michigan before. It's strange isn't it, the last thing we expect here in this area!
ReplyDeleteWow, in Illinois, unbelievable. Once when we were in San Fran we were awakened at around 1:00 with the bed shaking and drawers rattling. When the taxi came to pick us up in the morning to go to the airport, we asked about the earthquake and he had no clue what were talking about. He called his dispatcher and verified there was a quake 4.4!! He said that they are so used those small ones they don't even feel them. Wow!
ReplyDeleteI know how scary that is Jane.. we had one back in 1967...the house shook, My little 3 yr old at the time was sitting in the little room ( you know) at the time, we all ran outside, he came out crying wondering what was going on!
ReplyDeleteJulia ♥
Not nice - so pleased you are safe! I experienced one in Anaheim once - not nice!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline♥
We had one once while growing up in the NC foothills. My Mom thought the furnace was blowing up!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are okay up there. Hope you can rest and get rid of that cold soon!
If it's not one thing it's another... glad you are ok...
ReplyDeleteI read about that! Scary!!
ReplyDeleteWow....that would be something different...welcome to my world....!!! Glad it was not worse than that.
ReplyDeleteI've mentioned it before, but I use ColdFX for any sign of a cold coming on and haven't had one for years because this just does it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why it works but it does.
Ooh and earthquake in the winter too! very unusual isn't it?
It's the time of year to feel the blahs...only 6 more weeks of winter and then the warming up begins....we can only hope.
That is scary! Glad everything is okay. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you have to "feel" that feeling. Living at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California, I know it well. Our mountains were born from quakes and hold so much power in our community. We know how they got there, we watched them burn this summer, and now the mud is coming down! On the up side, quilts make nice earthquake art. They don't knock you out when they fall!
ReplyDeleteJane, we had one here in Southern Illinois almost 2 years ago. A 5.6 at 4:30 in the morning. It was about 5 miles from my house. It was so scarry. We had after shocks for weeks, one being 4+. Our home wasn't damaged but I had a lot of broken things around the house. So, I know where you are coming from.
ReplyDeleteI been in earthquakes when I lived in S. Calif. and felt one in Florida several years ago when I was visiting my sisters.
ReplyDeleteAre you near the New Madrid fault?
Oh Jane, how scary...I can't even imagine an earthquake in Illinois. Hope you are feeling better soon. Good time to just rest and read blogs!!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
~Karen~
Goodness! I felt an early morning quake here in South Carolina about ten years ago. That was so strange. When I lived in Boston, we were driving down the highway one evening, and the road became sort of fuzzy -- kind of sickening feeling, and then we found out there had been an earthquake. Just a wiggle each time, but totally enough for me! -- michele
ReplyDeleteI grew up in CA and now live in Texas. My thoughts are that I would rather have an earthquake than a tornado any day. Here anytime the wind blows they have a weather alert and they get everyone in a tizzy about it... earthquakes on the other hand happen and are done and you go on. :)
ReplyDeleteHow scary! My son is leaving Wednesday to come and live in Illinois for 2 years. Yikes! I hope he will be safe from all that stuff!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that you are safe!
Oh my gosh. I live right on the Wasatch fault line. Someday, eek.
