Wizard of Oz

I have made some progress on the
Wizard of Oz Quilt
for my sister.
I have been working on the section of the movie that is all in color.
The pictures are from panels, so I cut out the pictures and lined them up on my design wall in chronological order. (I hope)

I then picked pictures from a part of the movie and made a large block.
This is one long piece but I took three pictures so you could see the details.
I love this fabric, it looks just like the movie.

"I don't think we are in Kansas anymore."
"Only bad witches are ugly."

"Are you a good witch or a bad witch?"

"I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too!"

and how scared was I at this part
talking trees!!
(poor guy up-side down, I need to fix him)

"Poppies, Poppies, will make the sleep, sleep."

"Ahh, now that is a horse of a different color!"

Love the "Surrender Dorothy!"

This is as far as I have gotten. But, I am taking my time as I really want this to be special.
I am still trying to decide on a solid color to tie it altogether.  Any ideas?

  1. How about a green to match the witch or Emerald City? I also think a medium-to-dark shade of gray would be really nice with this too. I love that fabric you have for the yellow brick road part. So neat!

  2. This is fabulous - I would probably use a red or black to tie it together but then I really like bold colours to make it all pop. Cant wait to see it finished!

  3. Love the fabric. This will be a terrific quilt.

Did you notice in your photo of the talking tree that he is Upside Down? Just thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't realized.

Have fun making this one and let us all see it when done!

  4. How about a nice light blue? I think it would coordinate with the other colors and the sky is where the rainbow lives.

  5. That fabric is amazing as the pictures are so clear. Love it! Can't wait to see the finished product. :O)

  6. I love that movie! Your sister will be amazed with that quilt.

  7. The talking trees may have scared you, but it was the evil flying monkeys that had me hiding my eyes!! :) :) Jane, that'll be so nice when it's complete and more special for your sister since you'll have made it for her. I wish you all the best today!

  8. My first thought was of RED...like the shoes, but then thought of the Emerald City green too! Too many decisions to make for this fabulous project.
PS...love the 10 month old photo!

  9. Jane, your sister's quilt is coming along great! The coordinating fabrics you are using like the yellow brick road are wonderful! It is going to be a very fun quilt!!

  10. What a cute quilt! I like the "Surrender Dorothy" panel the best. I think a red checked binding would look nice.

  11. I love this Jane - but I'm terrible with color so I can't advise. I can't wait to see it finished! blessings, marlene

  12. Green like the Emerald city? or black and white - the movie starts and ends in it...

  13. I was going to say emerald green, but what about blue lick that in Dorothy's dress?, or wouldn't it be fun to find a blue gingham to bind it with?

  14. Wow what a striking quilt! The fabrics really stand out. =D

  15. Cute. And before I read someone else's suggestion, I was going to suggest lighter blue since it in every panel in Dorothy's dress. That would tie it all together nicely.

  16. OHH wow//this is a bright quilt...really bright..you won't ever need a flash light..it will glow I bet lol

  17. That is my favorite all time movie! I think the idea from above of the blue gingham for the binding would be great depending on your back ground color. I would probably use black as a background and probably frame the pictures in different fabrics like the emerald green, the blue from her dress etc. I think using the black will tie them all together.

  18. I have lots of that fabric too. Haven't made a plan yet but enjoyed seeing yours, I also got some of the blue gingham from her dress hoping that would help tie it together or each section with different backgrounds for mood?

  19. Love your Oz Quilt. I, too, am hopelessly in love with "The Wizard of Oz"........I am working on a Oz Wall hanging for my Dining Room which will be entitled, "There's No Place like Home......Love all the fabrics still available but I'm sad that they are all out of print now....hoping Timeless treasures will do another series!

I always love to hear your thoughts!
