My stash… (Shh I have more in a box)!!!
Now here is my problem and I hope you can help! I have so much and so much is different. From vintage, to modern, to novelty.
All colors all shades.
I want to showcase the fabrics but not just in a scrap way.
I have no idea what block I should use?
Maybe a modern log cabin?
Squares within a square?
Stars?
Any ideas for me? Links? Pictures?
Thanks!!!!
Any Christmas fabric you do not want? I would be happy to send you my address!!

hi Jane!
ReplyDeleteOn my blog, I have a picture of a quilt I made in August.
I used 5 inch charm squares and made snowball blocks. The background "snow" was the same fabric I used for sashing and then a main colour for corner stones. I took the sashing and cornerstones to include an inside border.
Then I used a main fabric from the same line, for a 6 inch outside border.
It went together very quickly.
Hope this helps, take care, Leslie

I agree with the comment above....a snowball is a good choice for a block that will let you feature some of those great fabrics without having it look so scrappy.
ReplyDeleteSomeone has a serious Christmas fabric love. Since some of the prints are large I love Terri Atkinson's Happy Hour. I made one using Christmas fabric and Love it. I'll see if I can find the link and email it to you.
ReplyDeleteCute stuff Jane. And it doesn't surprise me that you have a lot of pink in there!
ReplyDeleteLots of Christmas Love there! Looking forward to seeing what you decided to do with them.
ReplyDeleteWho knew Christmas had so many colors?????
ReplyDeleteI just saw a blog with some great ideas. Check it out at http://janeweston.blogspot.com/2010/10/ideas-for-scrapspart-2.html
Oh my gosh, I love the pink set and the blue set!!
ReplyDeleteI would do something showy like snowballs or stars. You simply cannot cut up some of that for log cabins. No way. Too pretty!
I copied this quilt as an idea for me yesterday--maybe it would work for you: http://www.marcusfabrics.com/makeit/projects/fresh_mixerz/fresh_mixerz.pdf
ReplyDeleteTo give credit, I found the free qult link on the site: quiltcrossing.com under Marcus Brothers fabric--they've got several of the Jan Mullen line called for in the pattern, but I think it would work for your Christmas fabrics too! Happy Stitching! (I'm curious to see what your come up with!)

ReplyDeleteHopefully it will print all of that this time!
Ok so it didn't work--search Fresh Mixerz by Jan Mullen and you'll find it I hope!
ReplyDeletegreat Christmas stash...since I love star blocks...what about doing stars that would feature a special fabric in the center then have solid (or reading as solid) points on the stars
ReplyDeleteOh Jane-- You make me want to go upstairs and sew! You can just send all those pink and green fabrics to me. I'll help you reduce your stash!
ReplyDeleteJane, those are some fun fabrics! I really like the quilts I've seen lately that have a big circle, then a smaller circle and then an even smaller circle, all inside a solid color square. Something like that might be a good way to show off these colorful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do will be beautiful!

I see ornaments of different shapes, sizes, and fabrics.
ReplyDeletemmmmh! luscious, and love the pinks and blues. Have fun, and definitely whatever you choose, you want the blocks to be big enough to show off some of those wonderful prints. The log cabin is definitely OUT!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us...I'm drooling.
I had that problem too and finally rearranged my fabrics by types. So much easier when I want to make something. But you have a lot of beautiful pieces and I would think a design that you can mix and match, like stars, hexagons, etc.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Oh I love Christmas fabrics! I know whatever you come up with will be cute, cute, cute! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat about a snowball quilt....those fabrics are just yummy..
ReplyDeleteI saw this cute Halloween quilt yesterday & think it would be great for showcasing prints you can't bear to cut up. http://kheaney-writeitdown.blogspot.com/2010/08/spookily-quilt.html Quick too! Love the large poinsettias in your first picture.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics - some of them would look great in the middle of a sawtooth star.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good selection there Jane...hey....aren't you supposed to be quilting on your halloween quilt..???? HA!
ReplyDeleteHow about that curved log cabin I made for the show? Or 9-patch and snowball alternating? Manana!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say snowball blocks, too! You could do a Circle Around quilt too. Maybe add in some GO! cut snowflakes too. Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteLove the pink and green...not sure what you should make, but can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteI started one but don't have any pictures using xmas fabrics and making "candy" blocks. a rectangle with a quarter square triangle on each end to look like wrapped candy.
ReplyDeleteWhat darling fabric! I especially love the pink and the blue colorways!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous fabrics. Squares would really showcase them..lots of small ones.
