I finished my last two nested churn dash blocks this weekend.
I have a total of nine.
I still need to fix my "oops" block.
Now it is time for the sashing. I was thinking red but then I thought that might be "too much"
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks and happy sewing!
I'm at the same point as you and have several colors/prints pulled, but nothing pops at me yet. Have you thought of a pale solid yellow with that lovely black polka dot for corner stones?
ReplyDeleteDo you have more of the low volume polka dot that is on the blocks? I think using the same fabric could give the blocks a floating look and feel?
ReplyDeleteI like that pale dots print that frames each one. I love the way you have it layed out and how that pale print separates the blocks yet blends them together as well. I'd sash with that one. I LOVE how this quilt is looking!
ReplyDeleteNice job Jane! I finished one block, and then it got set aside for now. Looking forward to getting back to the Nested Churn Dash soon.
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are so pretty! You could always do yellow but I think red would be great too.
ReplyDeleteIf you had enough fabric strip lengths over, how about combining all the fabrics in a strip edging, with the alternating fabrics?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise Id probably turn to light and darker blues as a surround, maybe the light blue as the outer edge.
So many choices lol
Although Id probably go with light and darker blues rather than red alone for wider edging
Ooooh I've been waiting to see these all done together! I'd go for the red sashing...but that's me!LOL! Can't wait to see what you create!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think red would look good, or maybe pale yellow? You said you need to fix your "oops" block. I can't work out which one it is, so I don't don't think anything needs changing.
ReplyDeleteJane, when I have so many colors and patterns in a quilt top, I tend to go with a solid sashing. What I do is to lay a length of one color I am considering on each side of the quilt top and begin eliminating from there. I would probably go with the solid red, but this is your quilt and your decision. Another thing I do after I have eliminated 2 of the fabrics is to temporarily lay 2 strips of each color along the long and short sides of the quilt and walk away from it. Usually, when I do this, it helps to clear my head and make, what I feel, is the right decision when I look at it again. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is smashing! I LOVE it! I can't even decide myself what to do with quilt sashing! I FINALLY chose one for my Beauty quilt but then couldn't decide about cornerstones....sigh....I'm sure whatever you decide will be beautiful! You have my address, right? Just send it down to Oklahoma when you're done! XO
ReplyDeleteThey are marvelous and quite graphic with the variety of prints you picked, Jane! Can't wait to see what you do for the sashing! Great ideas in the above comments :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look gorgeous! Lots of good ideas from other readers.......I think I might pick the red!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comment on my post, Jane...the hexagon I used for the mats was a 2 inch one so it comes out quite big :)
Happy week!

Your church dashes are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThey're lovely. I would use the light polka dot fabric that you've used.
ReplyDeleteLove the. Locks. It will be a beautiful quilt no matter what fabric you use..
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I like the idea of yellow Jane! Look forward to seeing what you decide!
ReplyDeleteI thought yellow instantly-preferably yellow gingham! It looks fabulous Jane!
ReplyDeleteI love these! Made 3 yesterday and used up lots of scraps and strips. One fabric I've had for 10 years when I made my grandsons quilt. These are sew much fun to make! More today! I love using scraps.
