Think Christmas blog Hop~~ My Day

I have been Thinking Christmas!! Yes I have!!
How nice of  Lesley to host the Think Christmas Blog Hop.
A big thank you to Lesley and to Madame Samm.
Today is my day to play!!

I love pink and no wonder why it is just a spinoff of red, my second favorite color!
So, I pulled out my red Christmas fabrics and started to play.
I used 5 X 5 squares and added the corners (1 1/2 inches?) to make what I call an ornament block. I believe the official block is a Snowball Block. I made four little blocks and put them together to get this block...

Hmmm, I liked it; so I made another.

And another.....

Wait,  if I put them together they would be a darling table-runner!

So, I did!!

But why stop here? Let's add a backing and some batting.
Santa on the back for you Lesley!
How about gridline quilting?
Yes, that is a purple crayola washable maker!
I use them all the time and they wash right out!

I love to hand quilt and for this runner I choose red thread.

Binding!
I am so proud of myself!
This is by far the hardest part of quilting for me to achieve. I have watched so many techniques for attaching binding that I am finally starting to understand!
I love to use a stripe for binding especially one that is diagonal!

Fresh out of the dryer and ready for my table this Holiday Season!

Since it is Christmas in July  I took one of the photo's by our S'more fire pit!

Oh, yes my favorite Christmas movie. Hmm, just might have to watch that today!

Thank you Lesley, I had so much fun!
Now...

Wizard of Oz

I have made some progress on the
Wizard of Oz Quilt
for my sister.
I have been working on the section of the movie that is all in color.
The pictures are from panels, so I cut out the pictures and lined them up on my design wall in chronological order. (I hope)

I then picked pictures from a part of the movie and made a large block.
This is one long piece but I took three pictures so you could see the details.
I love this fabric, it looks just like the movie.

"I don't think we are in Kansas anymore."
"Only bad witches are ugly."

"Are you a good witch or a bad witch?"

"I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too!"

and how scared was I at this part
talking trees!!
(poor guy up-side down, I need to fix him)

"Poppies, Poppies, will make the sleep, sleep."

"Ahh, now that is a horse of a different color!"

Love the "Surrender Dorothy!"

This is as far as I have gotten. But, I am taking my time as I really want this to be special.
I am still trying to decide on a solid color to tie it altogether.  Any ideas?

Blog Hop July 14th

I have a guest today!
Please welcome
Diann!

Welcome to the Red, White, and Blue Blog Hop

My name is Diann and I'm from New Jersey. I've taken part in several blog hops as a hopper, but this is my first time as a presenter. Thanks to Jane for hosting me today. I have two blocks to show you today; one is traditional and the other is my own design.

When I decided to participate in this block hop, the first thing that came to mind was the Carrie Nation block. It's traditional, but not one I've seen a whole lot. I think it looks fabulous in red, white and blue.

Here's my block:

The background is Kona white and the other fabrics are scraps from my stash.

Next is a partial top from my pile of UFOs. It gives an idea of how these blocks looks when put together into a quilt. These blocks were from an exchange I did quite a few years ago. I love the diagonal effect of the red squares. What I don't love is the one block where the white is more of a cream. It just doesn't fit with the others. That's why these blocks ended up as a UFO. If anyone has a suggestion of how to salvage it, please let me know in the comments. I'd like to add more blocks and make a twin bed size quilt. No borders, just a red binding. Wouldn't it look fabulous? The white in these blocks were mostly white-on-white. If I were to start from scratch, I'd use the same solid white for all the blocks but still use a variety of reds and blues.

Next up is the block I designed myself. It's not terribly complex, but I really like it.

I call it Bubbles and it makes me think of a celebration. The background is Kona white and the rest is from my stash. I drew circles with a compass, and hand appliqued them. It was a lot of fun to make. I'm still trying to decide how I'm going to use the block. Let me know in the comments if you have any clever ideas.

Thanks to Jane and Madame Samm for putting together this blog hop. It has certainly generated a lot of interest. I've enjoyed seeing what everyone has made.

Don't forget to check out the other entries for today-and you can go back and check out any that you've missed by clicking the button on Jane's side-bar.

Blog Hop July 13th

I have a guest today!
Please welcome
Kathy!

Hi, I am Kathy.   I was so inspired by all the beautiful table toppers from the last blog hop that I thought I would like to make some blocks this time.  Thanks to Madame Samm and Jane for organizing the blog hop. Jane has nicely offered to host this hop and post my pictures, so thank you, Jane.

I have 3 daughters, so I have seen many a pair of shoes walking around this house and when I saw block # 127 in the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 2 magazine, I knew it was the perfect block.  I would love to make just about every one of the blocks in the red, white, and blue combination.

I have also made many purses, so the block #225 in Volume 3 seemed just right as well.  Love it in the red, white and blue combination.

I hope you enjoy these blocks and the rest of the blog hop. I have found so much inspiration already and want to make a few more blocks. Thanks again, Jane, for hosting the hop and posting my pictures.

Blog Hop July 10th

I have a guest today!!
Welcome
Quilted Sisca

First of all I would like to thank Jane for hosting me for the Red White & Blue Blog Hop : ) As you already know, I am a newbie in sewing and quilting, but I just  could not  contain myself when I heard about this Blog Hop. I wanted to be part of it!!!!  Well, like you said in your post earlier last week, "July 4th was Fun, Family and Food."  For me it was Fun, Fast and Furious, referring to making these blocks of course : ) Food and family are included too ,especially when we harvested a 33 pound watermelon on the 4th. That was exciting!  Yes, yes, yes, the color was red, red, red and yummy – except for the fact that I ate too much watermelon and drank too much juice : )

I started my blocks with sketches, lots of them. What can you expect from a newbie? I decided that I would make a traditional block and of course I choose the easy one :)
 … the Churn Dash.

Another Churn Dash.

Then I did the Friendship Star.

I thought I should make a wonky star from your tutorial, but I realized it was too small for 12 and half inches... so I added a log cabin to it. Not bad huh : )?

Another Wonky Star.

Oh my, my, my, head started spinning, I guess to many Red White and Blue blocks : ) and … here are some of the blocks which came out without a plan or a sketch.

my favorite is the block of my unfinished table runner …

no I change my mind … the block with the white background and lots of strips … they remind me a lot of the American flag and the tiny postage stamps.

I will work on the table runner tomorrow since I am just too exhausted from taking pictures.  I am in need of a big cup of coffee and some sweets : )

Do you like my fabric coaster and my patriotic mug : ) ?

By the way, I hope I didn’t steal anybody's “block pattern” but I am sure I have seen some of them somewhere and it somehow ended up like what you see here : ) Do you think I am going nuts?

Well , I ran out of fabrics to make 12 and half inch blocks now. So I thought I would make little tiny pincushions . I only wanted to make one or two but I ended up making a dozen of them.

What am I going to do with them? Some ladies at my Quilt Quild might get them as their door prize : )  Would that qualify me to be a Pincushions Keeper?

Oh, I realized I still had some fabric left, so I ended up making some more fabric coasters . I thought this was neat, but my hubby said I was totally going nuts. I hope you will find them acceptable ,and of course I understand that I totally crossed the line with the tiny tiny blocks – if I put them together they might get to measure up to a 12 and half  inch block.

I better go now … thank you once again for hosting me and for everything : ) I had lots of fun making these blocks and this Blog Hop really inspired me a lot.
