Vintage Thursday.......

Vintage Thursday is a fun group hosted by Confessions of an Apron Queen..........

I just love this day! Look what I have to show this week…
My mother-in-law passed about 4 years ago at the age of 85 and this was her porcelain doll. Whenever we would go visit, my three girls would ask to they could see Grammy’s Doll, of course she would let them. I was the mean one who said they could not play with it, what if something happened!! Just before she passed she gave the doll to my youngest daughter (7 at the time) and told her it was hers and she should play with it! She would take her out and just look carefully at her and then put her right back where Grammy always kept her. She knew how special she was too!

Outfit she came with....

These little Bride and Groom were in the box also. I wonder if they were from her Wedding Cake, knowing how well my mother-in-law took care of things, I would like to think they were. We love and miss you Grammy, PS you too Grampy!!

Goal Accomplished!!!!!

Thank you so much for all your nice comments about my table runner. Well I thought I would show you a picture of what “step-sewing” looks like. This is a procedure called Seminole Piecing. You sew the segments by off-setting rows by dropping color #1 face down on top of color #2, right sides together. You continue to sew all eleven segments into a staircase.

Then you go on to the step where you sew segment #1 to segment #11. Hope that helps.
Well, I did it, my goal for the weekend; put on the borders, layer, mark, and pin the table runner.

It is 6:30 PM Sunday and I am ready to begin the fun part, the hand quilting. I hope to show you the finished product in a month.
PS Don’t forget about my birthday giveaway, you still have time to enter! Stay Safe and Dry!!

I started one!!!

Wow, I was actually able to work on one of the New Year’s projects today. This is one I started in July and today I just got back to it. I am making a fall table runner for my oldest daughter. I have made this runner quite a few times. It is so easy. First you cut strips 3 ½ inches wide

Then sew them into a strip set.

Cut them into 3 ½ inch strips again

Next "step- sew" them. So it looks like this....

Now for the fun part, take row one and row eleven and sew them together, "step sewing" also. When this is done you will have a tube!!!

Lay it down, match the points, press one end and CUT it!!

Open it up, it will be a table runner!

I only got to this point. Hopefully tomorrow I can add the borders and get it marked for hand quilting. My goal is to start the hand quilting Sunday night! How are you doing on your projects? If you would like to join us, visit
Finn and sign up. We can all rise to the challenge!!

Vintage Thursday.....

This is my first Vintage Thursday post. Each week we get the chance to share something vintage with you, all thanks to Lisa from Confessions of an Apron Queen And as I am going to be 53, most of my items are surly 30 years or older!! I hope you enjoy it. Here is a small background; my great-grandmother quilted, I remember playing under her quilting frame as a child. My grandmother did not sew or quilt. My mother was an outstanding seamstress but did not quilt; I am lucky enough to do both but my heart belongs to quilting. It breaks my heart to say that there is not one of my great-grandmothers quilts to be found. My mother had ovarian cancer and left us 17 years ago but before she passed I was lucky enough to find this piece of handiwork tucked in her dresser drawer. When I asked her about it, she said it was the only patchwork quilt she ever made and it was for her doll. This little piece of “art” hangs in our bedroom and brings me much joy.

In addition she enjoyed doing embroidery. I also found and begged her for this embroidered piece. I took that piece, added a border and just did some light hand quilted. This hangs in our bedroom as well.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and I can’t wait to look at yours too! Jane
